About Us

Cannonsville Critters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that attempts to find loving, lifelong homes for homeless pets, to educate the public about pet responsibility, and ultimately put an end to the pet overpopulation crisis.

Our mission is to reduce the euthanization rate of kitties in Montcalm County and surrounding areas by taking in unwanted or abandoned cats/kittens, getting them vetted, spayed/neutered, and healthy, then adopting them out to forever homes.

Meet our Team

The “Boss Lady”, as we call her, is Michelle Hocking, and she, along with her husband Tom, started this rescue. Michelle volunteered at the local animal shelter, for awhile, and also fostered for another rescue, before staring Cannonsville Critters.

Our “team” consists of so many people, from all backgrounds, and we couldn’t function without them. We have a few volunteers, that come and clean the cat building, which includes tending to all the kitties, sweeping/vacuuming/mopping, cat laundry. We have other volunteers that help at adoption events, and fundraiser events, like garage sales, pictures with Santa, etc.

Finding Loving Homes

Our mission is to take in unwanted cats and kittens, have them thoroughly vetted (spayed/neutered, age appropriate vaccines, fiv/felp tested, treated for fleas and worms), and adopt them out to good furever homes.
When someone fills out an application, we look at a number of factors in determining the approval or denial. Our main interest is what is the best for the kitty. We may have more than one application, for one cat, and it isn’t ALWAYS first come, first served. We look at whether or not they have a vet. Understanding that this may be their first ever pet, so they may not have a vet yet. If the applicant has young children, we evaluate whether the cat would do well with young children, same thing if they have a dog or dogs, what breed of dog(s) they are, etc.

Our Shelter

The rescue building is coming along. The office area is pretty much finished, as well as one room for the kitties. It is a work in progress, as money and time allows.
